Staffordshire County Council is the lead authority for land drainage, under the Land Drainage Act 1991.

We also work with our partners including the Environment Agency to provide advice and guidance.

We have some direct responsibility for some water courses within the district and have a programme of maintenance to ensure these remain free-flowing and do not cause problems to nearby residents and businesses.

We can also take action where appropriate to ensure land drainage is undertaken appropriately within the district.
