Results of unannounced inspections at licensed premises in Uttoxeter

A series of unannounced inspections took place in Uttoxeter last month, as officers from East Staffordshire Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council and Staffordshire Police inspected a number of licenced premises in and around Uttoxeter Town Centre.

Some minor issues were identified such as licences not visibly on display and CCTV not operating in accordance with the conditions of the licence. Council officers have addressed these issues with the premises licence holders.

Police officers carried out drug swabbing in various areas within the licenced premises. The results of these drug swabs indicated that residual amounts of cocaine were found to be present in three premises on various pieces of sanitary ware items in the toilets.

The premises licence holders have been informed and will be held accountable to ensure that they take action to prevent drugs from being used on their premises.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Regulatory Services and Community Support, said: “It’s important that the Council undertake unannounced inspections of these premises to ensure public safety and wellbeing and that licence holders are compliant with their licence conditions. Overall, the result of the inspection were satisfactory and the Council has moved swiftly to resolve the minor issues that were identified during the inspection.”
