Station Street Improvement Plans Continue

East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council continue to move forward with ambitious plans to significantly regenerate the pedestrianised area of Station Street in Burton town centre.

The preferred design scheme, created by Amey Plc and Fira Landscape Architecture and Urban Design, was presented to the public in August 2018. Since then the Councils have continued to work collaboratively to fine tune the plans to allow this project to progress.

Cllr Richard Grosvenor, Leader of East Staffordshire Borough Council said: “Since its inception in 2017, the Burton Town Regeneration Programme has focussed on improving the appeal of Burton to residents, visitors and businesses. A number of Council projects have already been completed and the Station Street regeneration project will continue this work.

Together with Staffordshire County Council, we are committed to supporting the growth of the local economy. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively and delivering this fantastic project as it is something Burton deserves and has needed for a long time.

“East Staffordshire Borough Council has set aside a provision of up to £1.4m for the delivery of the project. Both the final designs and costings are subject to approval by East Staffordshire Borough Council Members which will take place post-election. Once approval has been granted we hope to start work as soon as possible”.

Staffordshire County Council Leader Philip Atkins said: “Rejuvenation of our town centres is a vital part of the county’s continued economic growth. We want to ensure they are attractive places to live, shop, work and visit, so schemes like that in Station Street are important.

“Burton continues to grow and by working closely with the Borough Council we can enhance an already vibrant town centre.”
