Licensing and Enforcement Initiative in Burton Town Centre

On the evening of the 22 November 2019 Licensing and Enforcement Officers from East Staffordshire Borough Council together with Councillor Bernard Peters, the Deputy Leader for Regulatory and Community Support, carried out a series of unannounced inspections at 35 of the licenced premises in and around Burton town centre.

The purpose of the Inspections was to ensure licenced premises were in compliance with their licence conditions. Some minor issues were identified and officers have already addressed these issues with the premises licence holders prior to further compliance inspections.

At the same time officers inspected a number of taxis operating in the town centre to ensure vehicles were complying with the stringent conditions they operate under - designed to protect and reassure the general public. As a result one vehicle was identified as having a breach of licence conditions for failing to display the licence plates issued by the local authority and was taken off the road by officers until this breach was rectified.

Cllr Bernard Peters said: “I fully support this initiative, officers from the Licensing and Enforcement teams regularly inspect licensed premises and licensed vehicles to ensure compliance. Safety of the public is of paramount importance for those visiting premises and the travelling public.
