Station Street Improvement Works to Start

East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council are pleased to announce that work to significantly regenerate the pedestrianised area of Station Street in Burton town centre will begin in mid-March 2020. People may soon start to see activity taking place on the street as Amey Highways carries out preliminary work in readiness for the start of the works process.

Plans were first presented to the public in August 2018, following this East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council have continued to work collaboratively to develop them to allow the project to progress. East Staffordshire Borough Council approved capital investment to be made on the project at an extra-ordinary Full Council meeting that was held on Monday 16th September 2019.

The development of plans for the regeneration of the pedestrianised area of Station Street has been in progress since January 2018 in partnership with Staffordshire County Council, Amey Plc and Fira Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. The implementation of the work will be carried out by Amey Plc under the management of Staffordshire County Council.

Cllr George Allen, Deputy Leader for Regeneration and Planning Policy said: “This fantastic news is a culmination of all the hard work that has been undertaken by East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council to develop a design that is appropriate for the area.

“We want to provide an area in the town centre which can be enjoyed by all, and provide the right environment to encourage businesses and property owners to invest in the town. This is something Burton has needed for a long time.

“Together with Staffordshire County Council, we are committed to supporting the growth of the local economy. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively and delivering this and future projects that will help to improve and futureproof Burton upon Trent”.

Staffordshire County Council’s Economic Growth Leader Mark Winnington said: “We are working closely with the Borough Council to further regenerate Burton town centre and ensure it continues to be an attractive place to live work and visit for years to come. Burton is a thriving town which is home to three national centres – St George’s Park, The National Brewery Centre and National Forest – and plays an important part in the county’s economic growth. This scheme in Station Street is one of a number of improvements we are carrying out.”

A dedicated webpage will be produced which will include information regarding the works process and a dedicated email address will also be created which will allow people to contact the site project managers directly. Along with this Amey Highways will also be operating an open door policy where people will be able to speak to the site manager face to face should they wish to.
