Crossley House could house the Burton Registration Office as part of Towns Fund project

The Crossley House building in Manor Croft adjacent to Burton Market Hall could become home to the Burton Registration Office as part of the Towns Fund project to relocate the library into the Market Hall subject to the business case being agreed.

The vacant building will be included in the proposal (Project E) as a way of minimising the impact of the project on the Market Hall building. The incorporation of the Registration Office into Crossley House means the proposal to extend the mezzanine level in the Market Hall is no longer required, which reduces the amount of structural work needed for the project.

Speaking about the proposal for Crossley House, Councillor Duncan Goodfellow, Leader of the Council, said:

“Crossley House is currently unoccupied and I welcome this proposal to bring new life into the building which adjoins the Market Hall. If approved, this proposal would support the wider rejuvenation of the Market Hall building.”

The proposal to turn Crossley House into the Registration Office will be considered as part of the business case for Towns Fund Project E by Staffordshire County Council this month, the Burton Towns partnership board in January and East Staffordshire Borough Council in February 2022.
