Plans to Expand Stapenhill Cemetery

Following a cabinet meeting on Tuesday 16th August 2022, a decision was made to proceed with expanding Stapenhill Cemetery onto Claverhouse allotments next to the cemetery. Whilst consideration of expansion at Stapenhill Cemetery has been underway for some time with the undertaking of the necessary ground investigations etc, this decision now means the work to progress the expansion will start straight away this year.

Going forward, East Staffordshire Borough Council will also be carrying out ground testing at Rolleston to assess the ground for future years.

Cllr Ray Faulkner, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “It is important for the Council to assess all possibilities when looking to expand cemetery space across the borough. While on this occasion it has been decided Stapenhill Cemetery will expand onto Claverhouse allotments, we must continue to assess the validity of expansion elsewhere to ensure we have appropriate burial provision for years to come.”
