The Maltings 2023 Consultation Results Published

East Staffordshire Borough Council is pleased to publish the results of the 2023 consultation undertaken to help inform the future of the Maltings re-development in Uttoxeter.

The consultation was undertaken between January and March 2023, and included drop-in events for people to speak to officers and councillors from East Staffordshire Borough Council along with the architects who were commissioned to produce concepts of how the scheme could be developed.

The four concepts developed incorporated different elements of road layouts, housing, commercial / retail outlets and the locations of the bus station and public toilets, whist retaining current car parking spaces. In preparing the concepts, the architects considered constraints and opportunities along with the key requirements from previous feedback, being:

  • Retain retail space on elevations fronting the High St.
  • Retain the existing bus exit and Church Street Car Park Entrance.
  • Accommodate / retain an appropriate number of public parking spaces for town centre
  • Maintain access for bus services

This was the third consultation and the new East Staffordshire Borough Council administration is now considering how to move forward with the development.

Cllr Rob Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Development, said: “We are pleased the 2023 Consultation report into the Maltings re-development has been published and we now intend to take this forward to the next step.

Regeneration is so important to the future of our town that we must get it right, even if it takes a little more time than we would all have wanted”.

The report can be viewed on the Council’s website.
